Architectural House Plans near Bury St Edmunds
The Project:
To draw up architectural house plans for a 2 storey property in Culford, near Bury St Edmunds which required a extension to the rear of the house.
The Brief:
The main aim of the extension was to gain a large kitchen diner and extend the master bedroom including a vaulted ceiling and finally to install an ensuite bathroom.
The Results:
Originally the design was a simple two-storey extension, but due to planning permission restrictions (link to 45 degree rule) we had to make some adjustments to the plans.
We amended the designs which meant that the kitchen had a glass roof as a key source of natural light. We added a generous amount of space to the master bedroom, and a fitted wardrobe in order to maximise the feel of the room.
Some considerations that we had to make during the architectural design process were the drainage and conservation office approval. Firstly, the main source of drainage for the house was where the extension was intended to go so we liaised with Anglian Water to get this moved to the side of the property. Another consideration was to ensure that the conservation office approved of the architectural house plans we’d created as it was a listed property.
The end result was a spacious kitchen-diner with lots of natural light due to the glass ceiling, and a sizeable extension to the master bedroom including an ensuite, a vaulted ceiling and an addition of a fitted wardrobe. The exterior was cladded in natural wood, providing a fantastic modern-meets-traditional contrast to the listed Victorian cottage.
