Storage Solutions For a Smaller Property

It’s important to maximise the space, or the feeling of space in any home, especially a smaller one. In order to do this, you need to ensure that you have a variety of different storage solutions. There is a popular saying in the interior design world, ‘everything should have it’s place’, so read on to find out our suggested ideas for storage solutions.

Ottomans

An ottoman is an easy, affordable addition to your decor, and will help lead the style direction in the same way a new rug, or pictures would, without having to go to such extremes as updating the sofa or surrounding storage.  An ottoman can subtly provide much needed storage space for living room odds and ends.  The top of an ottoman also makes easy and accessible storage solutions for everything from blankets to coffee table books and the TV remote.

Storage chest

Storage chests work well under beds and on tops of wardrobes.  Veer towards lidded options to minimise the amount of items spilling out as it gets full.  A storage chest is the perfect choice for larger items, such as bedlinen storage, duvets and pillows, as well as items you don’t want left out on display.

Sideboard

Sideboards are typically fairly shallow, which makes them good-looking and practical, so you can fit them into tight spaces like a hallway to use the dead space. A sideboard is also a popular item for a dining room or kitchen, as they are designed to go against walls, and ornamental items can be displayed above, making it a very attractive storage solutions for living spaces.

Storage beds

The primary benefit of this type of bed is the generous amount of storage space that it offers. Instead of taking up valuable cupboard, drawer or airing cupboard space with bulky items such as spare duvets or sets of bed linen and chunky winter clothing, they can be conveniently put away beneath the bed but easily accessed whenever necessary.  Lifting the mattress requires virtually no effort at all.  Gas-lift hydraulics raise it up and keep it in place whilst you locate your stored items. These beds are particularly perfect for smaller rooms that don’t have added storage spaces.

Slide-out storage shelves.

Not only do slide-out shelves make reaching stored items easier than with standard cabinet spaces.  There is no more crouching and diving into deep cupboards of low shelves.  They store items far more efficiently as you can utilise the limited space they take up and fit more items out of sight.
